A little clarity, before we start
Good questions.
Straight answers.
From the first preview to life after launch, here’s what to expect when we work together.
01
The offer & costs
Is the website really free?
The initial preview and discovery call are free, with no obligation to proceed. If you go ahead with the agreed straightforward website, you pay £25 activation plus £150. With my hosting, that £150 covers the first year and renews annually. If you arrange your own hosting, the £150 is a one-off fee and you pay your hosting provider separately. There’s no additional design or build bill for the agreed scope.
What if I don’t like the preview?
You can stop there and pay nothing. The preview gives you something real to consider before agreeing the scope or making a payment.
How can you offer this?
I use a library of templates and AI tools to speed up the starting point, then work with you to make the website fit your business. Hosting and optional paid services help me keep offering this to more business owners.
What is hosting, and how is it different from a domain?
Your domain is your website’s address, such as yourbusiness.co.uk. Hosting stores the website and makes it available online. Domain registration, website hosting and business email can be separate services.
Can I use my own hosting?
Yes. You can arrange suitable hosting and receive the website files. My fees total £175: £25 activation plus a one-off £150 fee. Your hosting provider’s charges are separate. If you host with me instead, you pay £25 activation plus £150 for the first year, with hosting renewing at £150 per year.
Are there any other costs?
A new domain, business email, paid tools or extra features may cost separately. I’ll explain any proposed extras and agree the cost with you before starting that work. Optional maintenance is separate from hosting.
02
Getting started
How do I get started?
Start with the business enquiry form and tell me what you do and what you need your website to achieve. If you’d prefer a conversation first, you can still book a free discovery call. We’ll confirm the next steps together.
What do you need from me?
Your business name, services, contact details, useful photos and any logo or wording you already have. Links to websites you like are helpful too. We’ll confirm your essential content together by email.
Can we start if I don’t have everything ready?
We can discuss what you have and what’s missing. Having your essential content ready helps avoid delays and repeated revisions. Let me know your intended launch date so we can plan realistically.
How long does it take?
Allow around 2–4 weeks after activation payment and approval of your essential content. I’ll confirm timing personally. Launch also depends on final approval, your chosen hosting arrangement and domain readiness. Submitting the form or booking a call doesn’t reserve a guaranteed launch date.
Can I use my existing domain?
Yes. You keep ownership of your domain, and I’ll explain what’s needed to connect it when the website is ready. If you need a new domain, we’ll discuss the options and any separate cost.
Can you replace my existing website?
Yes, we can discuss a replacement. I’ll need to understand your current domain, hosting and email setup so we can plan the change carefully. Tell me about any pages or features you need to keep.
How do I give feedback?
Review the preview on your phone and computer, then send your feedback together in one email where possible. Specific wording, images and examples help me make the right changes. If a request adds to the agreed scope, I’ll explain any additional cost before proceeding.
03
Features & editing
Can I edit the website myself?
The standard static website doesn’t include a login or visual editing dashboard. If you need to update text, images or blog posts yourself, tell me before we start. We can discuss a platform such as WordPress, with the setup and any additional costs agreed separately.
Can you add bookings, payments, a blog or other features?
We can discuss those requirements. Some features can use an existing service; others need additional development. They aren’t automatically included in the straightforward website offer. I’ll confirm what’s possible, what’s included and any separate costs.
Can visitors contact me through the website?
We can agree the contact options that suit your business, such as email links, WhatsApp or an enquiry form. I’ll explain how the chosen option works, including whether a form sends directly to your inbox or opens the visitor’s email app.
Is a business email address included?
Business email is separate from the website. If you already have an email service, let me know before we change your domain settings. If you need a new address, we can discuss the setup and costs.
04
After launch
What if I need changes later?
You can contact me for one-off updates at £60 per hour. I’ll agree the estimated cost and timing before starting. Small changes can be grouped together.
Do you offer ongoing maintenance?
Yes. My optional Priority Website Maintenance plan costs £50 per month under a 12-month agreement (£600 in total). It includes up to one hour of small updates each month, such as text, images and links. Eligible requests are normally completed within 1–2 working days once I have clear instructions, final content and any required access. Unused time doesn’t roll over. New pages, larger changes, new features and work beyond the allowance are quoted separately. Hosting and third-party charges are separate. The plan is billed monthly in advance and ends after month 12 without automatically renewing.
Do I have to take a maintenance plan?
No. Maintenance is optional and separate from hosting. You can request occasional paid updates when you need them.
Can another developer work on my website?
For a static website, I can provide the website files so another developer can maintain it or move it to suitable hosting. Separate services, such as forms or booking tools, may need their own access or setup.
Why can’t I see the latest changes?
Your browser may be showing a saved version. Try opening the latest preview link in a private or incognito window. If it still looks unchanged, send me the page address and a screenshot so I can check.
